The Flower: Daffodils

Daffodils
Daffodils are originally from Europe, as well as the Mediterranean areas and North Africa. They typically bloom in spring, although some varieties bloom in fall or even winter. Daffodil blooms would positively cheer up any gloomy wintry day. They grow in many environments, including mountain ranges and woodlands, and they will even grow in silt or within the crevices of rock gardens. These flowers’ adaptability to almost any growing environment makes them reliable, lovely and hassle free. Several public arboretums allow their daffodils to grow throughout the less cultivated areas of the gardens, which are perhaps the most natural settings for them to thrive. Most daffodils like mottled shade, but not all.  The daffodil you choose may require a little trial and error before determining the location where it will be happiest.

Plantation of Daffodils

Daffodils are an easy plant to grow as they are resistant to illness.  They can easily last decades wherever they are planted.  However it is important to note that they should be planted in a well-drained space in order to avoid rot. They are least likely to bloom during a chilly season.  If you do decide to plant daffodils in terribly cold areas, paper whites will not survive there.  Daffodils nowadays have an awfully long season. Some even bloom within the fall. By planting several different varieties, your garden will have daffodils blooming from early spring to fall. Some varieties take two or more months bloom.  Opt for completely different styles of daffodils to get the best colors for each season. When planting, miniatures need to be handled differently.  Because the bulbs are smaller, they will stay within the garden and should be planted in a protected spot. You will be able to use berry baskets for planting. They should generally be planted from September through December. They like well-drained soil and should be planted about six inches deep or sometimes even twice that amount if the bulb is very tall.

However, it is important not to plant them too deep. Roots will then grow down into the soil as they mature in clumps. Although some people do plant them below trees, daffodils do not seem to be an extremely shade-friendly plant. They generally need about six hours of sun throughout the active season. Once established, daffodils can withstand drought and other severe weather conditions. They can be planted in ground cowl, but it cannot be too thick. It is advisable for daffodils to be surrounded by other plants.  Annuals work quite well for this.  However, this is not necessary, as some people do not plant anything around their daffodils, specifically if the daffodils are for show purposes.  Once your daffodil beds have reached their full square measure potential, it is recommended to then leave them alone at that point.

Social Impact of Daffodils

One of the Yank Cancer Society's oldest and most beloved fundraising programs is Daffodil Days. Because it is the first flower of spring, the Daffodil represents hope and renewal. To the Yank Cancer Society, the Daffodil symbolizes the hope we tend to all share for a future wherever cancer threatens those we love.  Every spring, the Society offers daffodils to donors in appreciation for a contribution. By giving bunches of daffodils to friends, family members, and folks touched by cancer, you're sharing a message of hope and raising funds and awareness to help defeat cancer.
